Our Story
It’s a story of discovery and courage of a husband and wife team Som Datt, and Maya Hallan who relocated from India in the UK in the 1960’s, their dream and mission to supply food from back home to the community in Crawley West Sussex.
This was the start of their grocery store “Hallan Cash & Carry”
Som Datt and Maya started their business as a small retail grocery store with an aim to provide Asian foods and provisions to target the ethnic market, providing the local community with Food from Back Home! The shop proved to be very popular with the Asian Community as well as those of non-ethnic origin, as an introduction to Asian foods.
Soon the business outgrew the shop and In 2010, Hallan Cash & Carry converted a pub a few hundred yards down the road into the current store it is today. The business was handed down the family line to become a multigenerational business.
Our Business Today
Over time Hallan Cash & Carry has flourished and become the largest retailer of World food and provisions within the area. The business expanded greatly with the introduction of wholesale to major restaurants, takeaways, commercial catering businesses and the company’s Ecommerce site.
The range of food has grown vastly alongside the business. Hallan Cash & Carry are now specialist stockists of dry foods, frozen, fresh fruit and vegetables, seasonal goods, spices and an extensive selection of prepared food for those on the go, boasting a stock inventory of over 11,000 products.
Hallans became the online presence of Hallan Cash & Carry, supplying 60% of its product range throughout UK, our aim is to offer our clientele a wide range of “food from back home” delivered swiftly at fair prices with excellent customer service.
